5 Mistakes to Avoid When Cleaning the Interior of Your Vehicle

Wrong vacuuming

If you let the hose run freely around the interior while vacuuming, you could be unknowingly damaging door frames, trim, seats, and other materials.

Clean upholstery with ammonia

Surely you have heard the classic advice: Clean the upholstery with ammonia diluted with water. The truth is that it can clean quite well, but it has several disadvantages as it is a fairly strong product (very alkaline). For example, over time it eats away at the color of the upholstery, Its aroma is not pleasant, It damages other materials such as plastics, rubber and coatings. To clean upholstery it is more advisable to use specific or neutral products such as APC (All Proposal Cleaner).

Clean the roof by moistening it

The interior of the car roof is quite a vulnerable area. If you clean with force or with excessive moisture, you will run the risk of the upholstery falling off. This is because the foam placed between the roof and the fabric can rot and lose adhesion. To prevent this from happening, clean by spraying a neutral product, such as APC, on a microfiber towel and rub it on the ceiling very gently and patiently.

Clean the dashboard with cotton cloths.

Cotton rags scratch surfaces as delicate as the plastics on the dashboard. Use microfiber towels and do it very gently. Also, make sure you don't scratch it with rings or even your fingernails.

Clean windows with household products

This can also be a mistake. The glass of the windows of the house are not the same as those of the car. Some components, such as ammonia, can damage car windows, especially those that have been subjected to special treatments and tinted vinyl. Also, if the ammonia falls on other surfaces such as the dashboard, they can be damaged. Better to use specific window cleaners for the car, which are currently alcohol-based and do it with towels that do not scratch or leave residue or lint.
